MANIT was started in 1960 as Maulana College of Technology. The college got renamed after the first Minister of Education, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad. The college was established in 1960 at Govt. Polytechnic with an intake of 120 students.
It was one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges. It was set up with just seven faculty members and an initial intake of 120 students. The institute commenced with polytechnic programs from the campus of Swami Vivekanand Polytechnic. Today the college has the total intake capacity of 820 students.
The college was inaugurated by the former Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), also known as National Institute of Technology, Bhopal (NIT Bhopal), formerly Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), is an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act. It is part of the group of publicly funded institutions in India known as National Institute of Technology.
College Grade / Ranking :
Bhopal is well connected with daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Gwalior and Indore. MANIT is 11 Km from the airport.
Bhopal is best connected by train on the central and southern railways. It is well connected with trains from Mumbai, Bangalore to Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Trivandrum etc. More than 150 daily trains have stoppages in Bhopal.
From Bhopal Station :
Bhopal railway station is 9 kms away from MANIT.Prefer to exit station from the platform 4-5 end. It is advised to refer MANIT with its old name MACT to Auto-wallas. Approx. fare is Rs. 80-120 by Auto, Taxi fare Rs. 200-240.
The Habibganj railway station :
It is 5 kms away from MANIT. Prefer to exit station from the platform 1 end. It is advised to refer MANIT with its old name MACT to Auto-wallas.& (Approx. fare is Rs. 60-80 by Auto,Rs. 150 - 200 Car Rental from Habibganj Railway Station to MANIT Bhopal. )
It is well connected by road as well.
Post graduate courses include Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Ph.D in relevant fields, as well as other Master degrees. Admission to B.Tech. programs is made through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) & to M.Tech. programs is made through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
For the Master of Business Administration course, admission is through CAT.

College Campus :
The institute is located in South east Bhopalon a beautiful highland with a lush 650-acre campus.MANIT's Computer Centre, Canteen, Athletic Ground, Gymnasium, Energy Centre and the open air auditorium are the places where students enjoy vigorous and competitive environment.
The campus houses about 4,000 students and faculty members. It has 9 hostels and new ones are in construction which has the excellent catering and lodging facilities.
The Auditorium has a capacity of around 800 people and is fully a/c accompanied by a incredible Hi-Tech sound system.
College Fees :
For Degree Engineering ( B.Tech. ) Course Fees is Rs. 67,000 per year.
